Nabari no Ou – 17 & 18

August 10, 2008 at 12:22 am (Currently Watching, Nabari no Ou)

Wow, it’s been so long (at least it feels like it has been) since I last saw this and I have to say I really missed it: missed the characters, missed the OP and ED (both the new and the old), and it’s great to finally get to watch some anime after a week or so. I know a week isn’t all that long at all but it’s big for me, okay? =P

Itazura na Kiss – 17

August 9, 2008 at 11:27 pm (Currently Watching, Itazura na Kiss)

Nice, just when I was starting to lose interest in this because of the lame marriage development, someone interesting arrives on scene: Kamogari Keita. He’s like another Naoki, only better. Now this show has been having some issues because while I usually like characters (men in this case) that act tsundere, I couldn’t really make myself like Naoki, probably because he was just the worst of the worst. Keita, I can like, though and what a shame that he probably won’t end up getting together with Kotoko D: That scene with the two at the party was too cute and funny and I hope they don’t cut Keita out of the picture too fast. I want to see more of him!

Kaiji – 8/10

August 1, 2008 at 11:32 pm (Currently Watching, Kaiji)

So I’ve completed Kaiji after a month or two-long hiatus followed by two (or three?) days marathon. After finishing each episode, I’d go over to the MAL discussion boards to see what everyone else thought and their speculations and after hearing what everyone had to say back in episodes 12 or 13, I was thinking I’d end up giving Kaiji a 9. But that definitely wasn’t the case. I have a lot to say but as I want to get this out tonight and am kind of tired, I’m going to be brief instead or everyone who reads this will be even more confused than they normally would D:

Restricted Rocks, Papers, Scissors was a pretty exciting game and I really enjoyed it as a first arc. I have to say, though, that Brave Men’s Road was my favorite, especially the second beam crossing. After the first arc in which every contestant was suspicious of each other, it was nice seeing a change. Ishida’s death was probably the best part of that arc. The E-Card arc came next and while I didn’t like it that much in the beginning, it grew on me as we discovered that Tonegawa was (unsurprisingly) cheating. Tissue-box raffle was the most boring arc in the show. Maybe it was because there had been the epic beam arc and the E-Card arc that had gotten me excited and I had high expectations for the last arc and when it didn’t deliver as well, it lost points. I don’t know. In any case, that last arc and its least exciting aspects lowered the potential score of a 9 to an 8.

Kaiji – 7

July 30, 2008 at 11:35 pm (Currently Watching, Kaiji)

Can I just say something here? I watched the first six episodes awhile ago and then took a break for multiple reasons. One of them was that I suddenly had a lot less time to watch anime. Second reason was because of the narrator. He really starts to get on my nerves now. It makes the whole show turn from mystery/detective to game show all of a sudden and it kind of breaks my mood. He doesn’t even say anything remotely important. He only repeats what all the viewers already know.

“The air around shrinks them.”

“The space begins to suffocate them.”

Isn’t this a classic ’show us, don’t tell us’ situation? =/

Red Garden – 3

July 30, 2008 at 8:36 pm (Currently Watching, Red Garden)

This is really a creepy show. Apart from the creepy character designs, especially that Lula woman, sometimes near the end of the episode, one of the girls will start singing a sad and creepy song and it just is a little scary watching this. Other than that, I’m hoping the girls will get over their ‘I can’t believe I’m dead’ phase and stop screaming all the time. I know it can’t be helped but seriously, a lot of screaming is no good to me.

So I’m curious. These girls that Lula and that other guy pick have lost the will to live, so she says. So is that the only criteria in how she picks the girls? It’s interesting what happened. Lise was kidnapped I suppose and brought into some mansion. Lula went to find her and so did the four girls (don’t know why though) and that’s where they were killed by what looks like Lula’s partner and some other guy. Then she revived the four girls so that they could live on borrowed lives and during a car chase, only Lise was taken. So now, monster-men things are going to come after them (I guess because they’re dead now?) and their only way to stay alive is to kill. Alrighty then. What will next episode reveal, although I’m not sure how long I’ll keep up with this?

Some quick first impressions

July 29, 2008 at 11:45 pm (Currently Watching, First Impressions, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Now and Then - Here and There, Red Garden)

Now and Then, Here and There

It started off all right. It took awhile to get used to the character design but that’s only because I’m so used to watching recent anime. Shu’s a funny person to watch, especially while he was trying to get Lala-Ru’s attention back on top of the smokestacks. Now, I’ve seen two episodes of this and it seems like the other kids there don’t really like this Hamdo person. I was distracted while watching these episodes so I’m pretty sure I missed something that might’ve been obvious. In any case, I’ll be paying more close attention from now on since it seems like it’d be an interesting show, especially since Hamdo has already proven himself to be almost insane (his voice on the phone and his behavior towards Shu when the latter had no pendant on him).

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Well I’ve started this supposedly epic show and I have to say, the total number of episodes is quite daunting. Kind of like how it’s taking me forever to start Prince of Tennis because of its length. Anyway, again like Now and Then, I had to take awhile to get used to the art. And I was also overwhelmed since I was just introduced to, what, at least fifteen characters in one episode? I can’t yet remember whose name is who but at least I know who Reinhard is. haha And I’ve suddenly forgotten what his red-haired friend’s name is too. Oh well. This was only the first episode and there are tons more to go so I think I’ll take this slow and enjoy the ride.

Red Garden

I have to say, though it has a low-ish rating on MAL, it’s synopsis was intriguing enough that I picked it up: four girls discover that one of their classmates have committed suicide and then that night, they get approached by two people telling them that they all died the previous night? That was enough to pique my interest. Although I’m now looking at its page and it’s Gonzo. Gonzo has a hit or miss reputation so I was a little wary watching this. Anyway, this was an odd episode. And I can’t really say how it was – it just was. I might continue to watch this but we’ll have to see in the next few episodes if it can hold my interest. Oh and I must remember next time not to watch this at night. Some of the characters’ eyes get extremely creepy ><

I miss playing my RPGs

July 28, 2008 at 11:16 pm (Personal)

So while my brother was getting his wisdom teeth pulled, I went to the mall to walk around and spent an hour in GameStop. So I’m wondering, if anyone has something to say it would help:

Macross Frontier – 16

July 26, 2008 at 6:56 pm (Currently Watching, Macross F)

Brera’s pretty hot :3

One thing I do have to say about this episode: I don’t like Ranka being used as a military weapon. In fact, I wouldn’t like it if it were Sheryl being used. I just don’t like that idea at all. Or even the experiment with Ranka’s voice. Maybe it’s because I know Grace has some ulterior evil motive but I hope Ranka ends up disagreeing with her being used.
